What You’ll Do

Teachers at Kangaroo Clubhouse play an important role in guiding children’s intellectual, emotional, and social development. Every day you’ll:

• Prior experience in childcare/teaching is preferred, but we will train the right person!

Position Details

• Job Type: Full-time (Monday–Friday)
• Schedule: 8 or 10 hour shifts
• Salary: $11.00 – $17.00 per hour (based on experience, education, & location)
• Experience:
  • Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
• Requirements before first day: Enhanced Background Check & CPR/First Aid Certification

The Substitute Teacher supports classrooms in creating and maintaining a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment. Subs may be assigned to different classrooms and age groups depending on the center’s needs. Responsibilities include assisting with curriculum, providing breaks for classroom teachers, ensuring children’s safety and well-being, and helping maintain a clean, welcoming environment.

Substitute teaching at KC offers flexibility:

• Each week, you provide your availability by Wednesday for the following week.
• Our Directors will schedule you based on your availability and center needs.
• Subs who demonstrate reliability, teamwork, and alignment with KC values are often considered for more permanent opportunities.

We serve infants through pre-kindergarten, as well as K–5 after-school care, across many classrooms. Operating hours vary by location, ranging from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Our centers are located in Caldwell, Nampa, and Boise.

Responsibilities

• Support the assigned age group of children (assignments may change daily).
• Assist in implementing lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher or Director.
• Provide lunch and break coverage for classroom teachers.
• Follow KC’s child guidance policy to help manage classrooms effectively.
• Ensure classrooms remain safe, clean, and inviting.
• Assist with preparing and serving meals/snacks, and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
• Step in to cover shifts when staff are absent.

Expectations & Commitment

• Once you agree to a shift, you are expected to fully cover it. Consistency is critical for maintaining proper staffing ratios and ensuring quality care.
• If illness or emergency prevents you from working, the same call-in policy as full-time staff applies: at least 2 hours’ notice must be given directly to the Center Director of the location you are scheduled at.
• Availability must be submitted weekly to KC Leadership via Slack by Thursday for the following week.
• More than two absences without documentation, or one no-call no-show, may result in termination.
• Failure to communicate availability consistently may also result in removal from the substitute list.
